Another place in Alnwick worth a visit is The Art House which can be found on the main street near to the arch down a small alleyway sprayed with replicas of grafitti artist Banksy’s works.

As you follow the artworks up the stairs, you are led into a beautiful contemporary little café/restaurant surrounded by modern art and photography which changes on a regular basis. (When I was there, some lovely bright Andy Warhol prints were adorning the walls). I would have liked to have seen the place at night as I suspect there would be a lovely cosy atmosphere (plus it has a licensed bar 😉 ) but even during the day, the place just had a lovely feel to it. The food we ordered was gorgeous and the service impeccable. They also have an enclosed courtyard for those balmy summer evenings. If only I lived a bit closer…………….
