After a meeting early this morning on the ‘other side of the water’, I decided to seek out some art while I was there. Someone had told me about an exhibition I might be interested in called Once Upon A Time based on children’s books at The Customs House in South Shields.
This was no ordinary exhibition. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, was either knitted, crocheted, appliquéd, felted or embroidered. This passionate group of knitters have recreated characters from various stories including Jungle Book, Alice In Wonderland, Hansel and Gretel, Beatrix Potter and my own personal favourite, The Gruffalo. It’s not quite what I expected as I didn’t realise it would all be crafted but it was amazing to see. It must have taken forever to get the scenes done, although I know that people who are into their knitting are very speedy with the needles. I think I’ll be leaving this particular craft to the experts.
